Educational System
Switzerland’s educational system comprises four levels. Children enter the primary level at the age of four to five. They usually attend two years of kindergarten and six years of primary school followed by three years of secondary school (level I), colloquially known as upper level. Compulsory education ends after eleven years with the completion of secondary school level I. This can be followed by secondary school level II with focus on professional training at vocational school or on general education at high school. After successful completion of secondary school level II, graduates can continue their education on tertiary level at university, university of applied sciences or teachers’ college.
