Public school of Davos

The public school of Davos covers all levels, from nursery to primary and lower secondary level. About 140 teachers are responsible for teaching 920 children and juveniles in eleven kindergartens, in six primary schools and one secondary school level I.

In kindergarten, the children’s physical, mental, and social development is promoted. It is an ideal preparation for primary school, where the children are taught the basics of school education. After grade six, they change to lower secondary school (level I).

Level I of secondary school is divided into middle school (Realschule) and secondary school (Sekundarschule). At middle school, the scholars get a basic education and are prepared for their future work life, mainly as craftsmen/-women or in industrial-commercial and service-oriented professions. Secondary school is more demanding in the subjects of language, mathematics, science, and music. It is the basis for a vocational apprenticeship (with or without level II diploma) or for attending secondary school level II.

In Davos, level I of secondary school is organised according to the so-called model B. This means that the compulsory subjects of languages and mathematics are taught separately according to the scholars’ level. For all other subjects, there are various forms of joint trainings.

Children with special needs get educational help and integrative support in all public schools. Primary school also runs a special support programme for the particularly gifted. Furthermore, there is a Swiss Olympic certified "Talent School" for sports and music at secondary level I.
