The first AO Research Institute was founded in Davos in June 1959 with the Davos Laboratory for Experimental Surgery (LECD). In 1992, the institute moved to the newly built AO Centre and was renamed to "AO Research Institute Davos (ARI)".
Until today, the ARI has continued to drive innovative translational research and development in orthopaedics on behalf of the AO Foundation. The research institute in Davos is focusing on applied preclinical research and development in the field of trauma and musculoskeletal disorders, craniomaxillofacial surgery, degenerative diseases, infections, and congenital disorders. The aim of the ARI is to produce clinically applicable results to help improve patient care in clinical practice globally.
